SATURNIA -Muzak
There’s something lysergic in the water in Portugal—fortunately for the populace, multi-instrumentalist Luis Simões drank it all up. His Saturnia project bathes in gentle, spacey psychedelia, loaded with atmosphere and melody. Simões layers guitars, analog synths, sitar, flute and Mellotron into his tracks like a carefully-prepared lasagna, using progressive rock instrumentation to explore inner space. Guest appearances by Gong’s Daevid Allen and Hawkwind’s Nik Turner are certainly appropriate, but its Simoes melodic touch and instrumental skill that carries “Hedge Maze” and “Nipple.”
